About
My name is Debby Wilkinson and I have been practising yoga in one form or another for around 20 years. I am a teacher by profession (gaining my PGCE in Secondary Drama at Reading University) and have experience in teaching in secondary school and adult education environments. I am a British Wheel of Yoga teacher and Diploma Course tutor, and also a Pilates instructor qualified through the Pilates Institute in London and a Nia teacher (details of which can be found on other pages on my website). I have been employed as an examiner for the Southern Examination Group (SEG) and the Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Board (OCR) examining both Drama and theatre related examinations as well as exercise and fitness qualifications.Fulcrum Yoga's approach
I have experience in many different forms of yoga but like to teach an eclectic style drawing inspiration from many different sources. I like to think that I teach in a very practical and fun way with my classes being disciplined and light hearted at the same time. I have a sincere belief in the application of yoga and a commitment to making all aspects of yoga realistic and accessible to our busy western lives. Yoga can be a wonderful way for us to manage the pressures of modern living and I try to make ancient practices relevant to my students. I believe that much of the wonder of yoga can be lost if it is made either too esoteric or too physical, and that striking the balance between the two provides a source of balance for us all.
My own style
My own studies have led me through many ‘faces’ of Yoga from the very physical Ashtanga and Iyengar type practice that is found in many classes in the UK, to the more Vedantic approach within which I was given my spiritual name by Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati from the Bihar School of Yoga. My eclectic style tries to utilise the best from all to offer that balance from which my students can take what they need.
